Matty's 2013 Team Before the Marathon!

2013 grants included the following:
- -The Crisis Nursery Coalition. Six crisis nurseries provide emergency shelter and respite care for young children of high-risk families. Funds are used for educational and training materials on Abusive Head Trauma/ Shaken Baby Syndrome. www.cncoi.org
- -Hardship grant for a sibling of a victim to attend college.
- -Parents Helping Parents 24 hour Parental Stress Line 1-800-632-8188 /prevention materials on Abusive Head Trauma provided to all new parents in MA for the past 7 yrs.
- -National Child Protection Training Center grant to develop a Chaplains for Children Program. A training program that will empower hospital chaplains, law enforcement chaplains, and clergy of all faiths to respond more effectively to instances of child abuse and neglect. This is a three year commitment grant from us. www.ncptc.org
- -Children’s Trust Fund Abusive Head Trauma Prevention Program “Babies Cry: Have a Plan.” We continue to support this effort, and are proud to have been the initial seed money in its development and over the past nine years. http://www.mctf.org/programs/fstc/Pages/shakenbaby.aspx

728 people attended the Boston conference Sunny Eappen gave a talk entitled “Fathers Moving
Forward”, and Debbie Eappen introduced a keynote speaker, Christopher Greeley, M.D.
The Matty Eappen Foundation provided grants to five families of victims of Shaken Baby
Syndrome/Abusive Head Trauma which enable them to attend the International Conference.
They were able to network with professionals and other parents to help them navigate the
complex world of SBS/AHT.
The Matty Eappen Foundation hosted a victim family dinner for 70 family members from

- Hardship grants for siblings to attend colleges
- Grant for a surviving victim to purchase a gait trainer
- Grant for survivor to attend special olympics in China
- Prevention grant to Core El Centro
- Billboard campaign to “Never Shake a Baby” taxi cab public service announcements, and posters on public buses and trains in MA
- Medical research with pediatricians and neurosurgeons on SBS/AHT
- MA state-wide programs to ensure that all parents receive training on the dangers of shaking a baby prior to their discharge from the hospital after giving birth
The Matty Eappen Foundation is a totally volunteer run organization. The greatest source of income is The Boston Marathon fundraiser.

Boston Marathon Update
We had 10 Boston Marathon runners on Matty's Team, who endured 26.2 miles in grueling heat to raise funds for the Foundation's programs. The 2013 Boston Marathon is scheduled for April 15. If you are interested in helping the Foundation by obtaining a race bib and participating in this elite race, please contact Paul Spellman at paul@pspellman.com.

- There were 728 people in attendance at the conference held in Boston. Sunny Eappen gave a talk entitled “Fathers Moving Forward”, and Debbie Eappen introduced a keynote speaker, Christopher Greeley, M.D.
- The Matty Eappen Foundation provided grants to five families of victims of Shaken Baby Syndrome/Abusive Head Trauma which enable them to attend the International Conference. They were devastated by the trauma to their families, and were able to network with professionals and other parents to help them navigate the complex world of SBS/AHT.
- The Matty Eappen Foundation hosted a victim family dinner at the International Conference for 70 family members from throughout the U.S. We shared our stories and offered suggestions and compassion.
